Follow the Lighthouse Keeper’s request for an Empty Beer Can, bring a practical early weapon and enough recovery time into the encounter, then prioritize clean movement and punish the opening after a charge or stun. After the fight, complete the return handoff instead of sailing away with the reward still in your inventory.
1. Confirm the summon and route trigger
- Talk through the Lighthouse dialogue. The first-boss route starts at the Lighthouse; do not assume the arena is active just because you can see the island.
- Find the Empty Beer Can. This is the boss request referenced by the supplied route guide and independent boss walkthroughs. Exact pickup spawn behavior is not treated as universal.
- Return to the requesting NPC when the interaction is complete. If the boss does not appear, compare the handoff state before changing graphics settings or abandoning the save.
2. Prepare without overfarming
- Buy the early upgrade that fixes your current bottleneck: controllable aim, reload downtime, or enough range to avoid standing inside the boss.
- Keep a little cash for the next route gate. A first-boss clear is a progression unlock, not a reason to empty your wallet on unverified “best” gear.
- In co-op, agree who is carrying the quest item and who is pulling aggro. Patch 1.0.9 adds a Steam connection debug readout, so note whether relay status is healthy before blaming the fight.
3. Fight plan
- Keep an escape lane. Avoid backing into props or the water while you learn the arena. The fight is easier when you can see the next movement rather than fix a bad camera angle.
- Use the charge window. When Spider Crab commits to a forward movement or is visibly opened, spend your damage safely; do not chase through an unsafe animation.
- Reset after a mistake. If a hit breaks your positioning, stop firing long enough to regain a clear line. Panic shots are more likely to extend the encounter than finish it.
- Split roles in co-op. One player can create space while another takes the clear shot. Treat friendly-fire behavior as version-sensitive and confirm the lobby setting before testing a shared strategy.
4. Finish the boat-key handoff
Clearing the creature is only half of the first gate. Return to the relevant Lighthouse interaction and confirm that the boat key/next-route state has actually advanced. The radar is a navigation tool for reading the next coordinates; it is not a replacement for the NPC handoff.
If the route does not advance
- Check the inventory for the boss reward and the requested item.
- Reload the last usable save only after recording what disappeared.
- Use the save-safe lost-items checklist if an item or weapon is missing.
- For a missing or invisible boss, use the trigger troubleshooting page; the community evidence is not a universal fix.
Version and evidence notes
The official v1.0.9 announcement adds Easy and Hard difficulty and a Steam connection debug panel. Easy creatures are described as having 25% less health and 50% less damage; Hard creatures as having 25% more health and 25% more damage. Those official modifiers are why older boss guides should not be compared without recording the selected difficulty.
