Albatross route at a glance
| Step | What to do | Do not lose |
|---|---|---|
| 01 / Reach Rocks | Complete the Pufferfish handoff, travel to Island 4 and speak with the local shop or quest NPC. | The route state and enough money for the boss lure. |
| 02 / Tuna | Use the Professional Boss Lure to catch the Tuna mini-boss and defeat it. | The entire Tuna body; do not sell or cook it. |
| 03 / Trigger | Carry the Tuna to open ground near a building or other cover and place it down. | A clear escape lane before the bird arrives. |
| 04 / Fight | Step out for ranged shots, then return to cover when the bird dives or uses its ranged attack. | Healing food, ammunition and a usable long-range loadout. |
| 05 / Handoff | Pick up the Albatross Head and return it to the quest NPC. | The head; the final-island coordinates arrive at the handoff. |
1. Catch the Tuna first
The Albatross is not summoned with a normal fish lure. Current walkthrough cross-checks agree that the Island 4 chain starts with the Professional Boss Lure and a Tuna encounter. The Tuna is both a fight and the physical trigger item for the bird, so plan the return trip before casting.
- Reach the Rocks island. Use the island route if the Pufferfish handoff has not yet opened this stretch.
- Buy the Boss version of the lure. Do not confuse the regular Professional Lure with the Professional Boss Lure; exact prices are kept outside this page until a current in-game check is recorded.
- Defeat the Tuna. Bait its jump, cut sideways rather than running in a straight line, and keep enough health to carry the body.
- Keep the whole body. Carry it back instead of selling, cooking or leaving it in a risky location.
2. Place the Tuna to summon the bird
Place the defeated Tuna on open ground on Island 4. Multiple independent walkthroughs describe this body placement as the Albatross trigger. Put it close enough to cover that you can retreat immediately; the trigger location is more important than trying to fight in the centre of the island.
Important boundary: sources agree on the Tuna-to-Albatross sequence, but the exact safest placement tile, arrival delay and escape timer have not been reproduced here on every difficulty. If the bird does not appear, keep the route in needs-verification rather than buying another lure immediately.
3. Fight from cover
The Albatross stays airborne and creates a different problem from the charge-and-punish bosses. Destructoid and several current boss guides recommend a Sniper Rifle or an upgraded automatic weapon, while the exact best weapon depends on aim, upgrades and difficulty. Treat that as a starting loadout, not a universal tier list.
| Situation | Safer response | Evidence boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Bird is circling at range | Stay inside cover, track its position and step out only for a controlled shot. | Cover loop is cross-source; exact damage and timing are not. |
| Bird begins a dive or projectile attack | Break line of sight and wait for the attack to finish before re-peeking. | Attack names and timing vary by guide; replay pending. |
| Shotgun is missing | Use a weapon that can reliably reach the target; do not spend the whole fight in open ground. | Shotgun ranking is a recommendation, not an official balance rule. |
| Health or ammo is low | Disengage, restock and use a fresh attempt rather than forcing the handoff. | Do not assume the Tuna can be recovered after every failed trigger. |
4. Return the Albatross Head
After the kill, pick up the Albatross Head and take it back to the Island 4 quest NPC. The boss defeat alone is not the route handoff: the public walkthroughs agree that the NPC interaction is what supplies the coordinates for the Volcano island. If the next island does not open, check the handoff sequence before replaying the fight.
If the Albatross does not appear
| Check | Why it matters | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Was the Tuna defeated with the Boss Lure? | The normal Professional Lure and the Boss Lure are separate route items. | Cross-source route |
| Is the whole Tuna body still available? | The body, rather than an ordinary fish or a cooked item, is described as the trigger. | Cross-source route |
| Did you speak with the Island 4 NPC? | Some walkthroughs place the warning or request before the Tuna step; check the dialogue state. | Replay pending |
| Did the handoff fail after the kill? | Return the Head to the quest NPC and verify the coordinates before leaving. | Cross-source route |
For a persistent spawn or progression problem, record the patch, difficulty, whether the Tuna was placed on open ground, and whether solo or co-op was used. Then compare the boss-not-visible checklist without deleting the save.
