Start the request first
- Reach Island 2. Follow the island route instead of trying to find the leeches on the Lighthouse island.
- Talk to the quest NPC. Activate the request so the counter and handoff state are visible before you start collecting.
- Search on land. Leeches are small world pickups in the grass or ground area; they are not caught with the fishing rod.
- Collect three. Keep them in your inventory until the NPC accepts the complete request.
- Return for the bait. The NPC handoff is the step that turns the leech objective into the bait needed for the next boss chain.
Where to sweep
| Search area | How to search | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Grass and forest floor | Walk slowly with the camera low; look for the pickup prompt rather than a large visible model. | Looking only at the water or trying to cast for them. |
| Around paths and vegetation | Sweep outward from the quest NPC and check edges around props. | Running the same center line and missing the perimeter. |
| Quest area return path | Track the counter after each pickup and return directly once it reaches three. | Selling, converting, or spending the quest items before the handoff. |
If the counter stops below three
Complete one slow perimeter sweep before calling it a spawn bug. Check the grass near the NPC, the edges of the usable paths, and any area you crossed while looking at the water. If the counter remains at zero, one, or two after the quest is active and the search is complete, use the separate leeches-not-spawning checklist.
Leech bait and the next boss
Raw leeches are not the final goal. After the NPC accepts the three pickups, confirm that the bait or quest state changed before returning to the water. The next progression step is the Giant Piranha encounter; its bones then return to the NPC to continue the island route.
